ONLINE SAFETY – AWARENESS OF INAPPROPRIATE SITES / APPS

We have been informed of 2 online platforms that children have been using which are not appropriate for primary school pupils, which we would like to share with parents and our community as part of our Safeguarding measures.

The first is an app called ‘Talkie’. This app allows users to talk to AI (artificial intelligence) but it is unclear whether it is AI or an actual person. It then engages the user in inappropriate conversations such as whether they have a boyfriend or girlfriend etc.

Jeffy on YouTube

The iNEQE Safeguarding Group have produced a safeguarding update (see the link below) about this YouTube channel. At first glance, the puppet-style cartoon could be mistaken for child-appropriate content. However, Jeffy is part of a wider trend of animated videos that are not child-friendly. Jeffy portrays an offensive stereotype and iNEQE online safety experts found videos portraying sexual content, nudity, violence, gore, profanity and more inappropriate themes.

Please check your child’s iPad / mobile phone to see whether they have downloaded either of these platforms and remove them.
